Three students were injured in a clash between two groups of students from Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur, reportedly following an argument on a campus bus. The university authorities have temporarily expelled one student, identified as Ansarul Islam, for his alleged involvement in the incident. Ansarul is a student of the Physics Department (Batch 2019) and a resident of Ziaur Rahman Hall.

The injured students have been named as Md. Naimur Rahman Durjoy (Agricultural and Industrial Engineering, Batch 2022), Md. Sabbir Ahmed Tanvir (English, Batch 2022), and Joy Ahmed (Accounting, Batch 2021). They were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital on Sunday night.

The injured students claimed that Ansarul Islam is an activist of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s HSTU unit and a resident of Ziaur Rahman Hall.

Injured student Joy Ahmed alleged, “The accused was armed with a knife and was attacking randomly.”

According to multiple campus sources, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 19, around 9:00 p.m., when a group of students were returning from the city to the campus on a university bus. Ansarul reportedly asked some junior students to “speak softly,” which led to an argument around 10:00 p.m. After the bus reached the campus, the quarrel resumed and escalated into a physical altercation, leaving three students injured.

Ansarul Islam, however, denied the allegations, stating, “Some juniors were talking loudly, and a senior brother asked them to lower their voices. When they replied disrespectfully, I protested. Later, around 10 to 12 people attacked me on campus, and I only tried to defend myself. I had no sharp weapon with me.”

Injured student Sabbir Ahmed Tanvir recounted, “That senior brother threatened me for no reason on the bus. After we got off, he started attacking us with a sharp object like a knife. I and several others were injured.”

The situation remained tense at the university bus stand area until around 3:00 a.m., after which university authorities and Kotwali police arrived and brought the situation under control.

Professor Dr. Shamsuzzohha, the university’s Proctor, said, “The student accused, Ansarul Islam, has been temporarily expelled. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter, and further action will be taken based on the committee’s findings.”
