Alibaba Advances AI Ambitions with New Data Center in Dubai
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has launched its second data center in Dubai as part of its cloud computing expansion strategy. The company announced on Tuesday that this marks another major milestone in the Middle East, nine years after the launch of its first regional center, according to Reuters.
Alibaba Cloud—the company’s digital technology and artificial intelligence division—stated that the initiative is part of its previously announced investment plan of 380 billion yuan (USD 53 billion) to be implemented over the next three years.
Eric Wan, Vice President of Alibaba Cloud International, said, “The Middle East’s rapid AI adoption and collaborative tech ecosystem are vital growth drivers across both public and private sectors.”
The United Arab Emirates is already building the largest AI campus outside the United States, with major global players such as NVIDIA and OpenAI participating in the initiative.
At the ongoing GITEX Global technology exhibition in Dubai, Alibaba Cloud has partnered with several local enterprises, including Abu Dhabi-based digital lender Wio Bank. The collaboration aims to accelerate the expansion of AI technologies across the region.
