Google Gears Up for Gigantic AI Investment in India
US-based technology giant Google has announced plans to invest USD 15 billion over the next five years to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center in India’s Andhra Pradesh state. This will mark Google’s largest investment in the country’s history, according to a Reuters report.
The initiative comes at a time of ongoing trade and tariff tensions between New Delhi and Washington. Despite these challenges, Google continues to view India as one of its most significant growth markets.
The new AI data center will be located in the southern port city of Visakhapatnam, with an initial capacity of 1 gigawatt. During the inauguration ceremony, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated, “This center will be Google’s largest AI hub outside the United States.”
India’s Minister of Information Technology and Finance also attended the event. Google revealed that upon completion, the project is expected to generate around 188,000 jobs.
Globally, the company is investing a total of USD 85 billion this year in data infrastructure to meet the growing demand for AI-driven services.
