Online Survey Seeks Salary Solutions

The National Pay Commission, under the Ministry of Finance, has launched an online survey to determine what the salary and allowances of government employees should be. The survey is open to four categories of participants: general citizens, government employees, government institutions, and associations or organizations. Interested participants must access the survey via the Commission’s official website.

Beginning on Wednesday, October 1, the nationwide online survey will continue until October 15. Through the survey, citizens can share their opinions regarding the salaries of officers and employees of government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, state-owned banks and financial institutions, public autonomous universities, and state-owned industrial enterprises. Participants can also comment on whether housing, healthcare, and education allowances should be increased.

For the general public, the survey consists of 35 questions. One such question asks what the minimum basic salary should be for a government employee supporting a six-member family. Other questions address how salaries and allowances should be adjusted in line with inflation, as well as whether education and medical allowances need to be enhanced.

Respondents will also be able to express their views on whether the housing allowances currently received by government employees are adequate. Another section raises the question of whether low salaries encourage corruption among government employees. Additionally, participants can provide feedback on whether retirement benefits are sufficient and whether they should be improved.

The survey introduction states: “One of the main objectives of the National Pay Commission 2025 is to formulate a broad-based and sustainable pay structure for the officers and employees of government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, state-owned banks and financial institutions, public autonomous universities, and state-owned industries. This structure will align with the country’s economic growth, inflation, and development strategies. The survey has been designed to gather feedback from all stakeholders for the Commission’s recommendations.”

The Pay Commission further noted that it believes “thoughtful opinions collected through the survey will enable the Commission to formulate fair and effective pay structure recommendations.”

It may be recalled that on July 27, the current interim government formed the 23-member National Pay Commission 2025, headed by former Finance Secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan.
