Teletalk to Add 1,000 New 4G Towers by December

State-owned mobile operator Teletalk is set to expand its network with the addition of 1,000 new 4G towers within the next three months. By December, the total number of its 4G towers will reach 5,760. In addition, another 2,420 towers are currently in the pipeline.
The update was shared on Saturday night, September 20, by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, through his social media handle.
He wrote, “Many have asked about Teletalk. When we took responsibility, there were fewer than 4,000 4G sites or towers across the country. Currently, there are 4,760 4G towers, and by December, the number is expected to reach 5,760. During our tenure, more than 1,760 new 4G towers are being realized (added). The process for another 2,420 towers is ongoing.”
Teletalk, launched in 2005 as a state-owned operator, initially saw long queues of customers eager to purchase SIM cards. While many still consider it affordable for internet services, users continue to voice widespread complaints about its coverage. In terms of network reach, subscriber base, and revenue, the operator has struggled over the years. Meanwhile, Teletalk’s outstanding dues to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for spectrum allocation have surged to nearly Tk 5,791 crore.
