YouTube Youth Yield: Google Agrees $30M Settlement
Google has agreed to pay $30 million to settle a lawsuit alleging the illegal collection of children’s data on YouTube. According to Reuters, the settlement is part of a class-action case concerning alleged violations of the United States’ COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act). TechCrunch reported the development.
The lawsuit claimed that Google collected data from users under the age of 13 while they accessed YouTube. While Google has denied the allegations, the company has consented to pay the settlement to resolve the case.
Under this settlement, approximately 45 million people in the United States may be eligible for compensation. This includes individuals who were under 13 and used YouTube between July 1, 2013, and April 1, 2020.
