Trump Terminates Top Tech Chief Amid Cybersecurity Concerns

Washington, D.C., April 4 – U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Timothy Haugh, the head of the National Security Agency (NSA) and Cyber Command, less than two months after Haugh assumed the position in February 2024, according to a report by TechCrunch.
The move has sparked significant concern and uncertainty regarding the leadership of America’s top intelligence and cyber defense agencies. According to reports from The Washington Post and The New York Times, the decision to remove Haugh and several other security officials was influenced by right-wing activist Laura Loomer.
In addition to Haugh, Wendy Noble, the NSA’s Deputy Director and the agency’s most senior civilian leader, has also been relieved of her duties.
The Department of Defense confirmed that it is currently monitoring the situation in light of the abrupt dismissals.
The decision drew sharp criticism from lawmakers. Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, called the move “shocking” and warned, “Actions like this during a time of cyber threats to the United States raise serious security questions.”
The sudden changes at the helm of key national security institutions come amid growing global cyber threats, further intensifying debates around internal stability and preparedness in Washington.
