Apple and Google Gagged in Australia

The Federal Court of Australia on Tuesday ruled that Apple and Google have abused their market power by limiting competition through their respective app store policies, TechCrunch reported.
In a lawsuit filed by Epic Games, Justice Jonathan Beach stated that the two tech giants had hindered competition by leveraging their dominant position in app distribution, although he dismissed allegations of “unconscionable conduct.”
Epic Games has long been engaged in global legal battles over the in-app purchase fee structure. After securing a major victory in the United States, Fortnite returned to Apple’s U.S. App Store for the first time in five years.
Following this ruling in Australia, both the Epic Games Store and Fortnite could soon make a comeback in the country as well. Google and Apple have expressed disagreement with certain aspects of the court’s decision, while reiterating their stance on security and app distribution.
