Banking on Youth: Prime Bank and SUST Inspire Students for Financial Inclusion

To encourage youth engagement in the banking sector, a seminar titled “Empowering Youth: Engaging and Inspiring Youth in Banking” was recently held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). The event was jointly organized by the SUST Career Club and Prime Bank PLC at the university's mini auditorium, with over 250 students from various departments in attendance, the bank announced on July 26.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness among university students about the banking industry, promote financial inclusion, and open up career possibilities in the banking sector for young individuals. It also served as a vibrant platform to guide students on future preparedness, career-building, and the importance of acquiring appropriate skills and qualifications—either for employment or entrepreneurship.

The keynote speaker, M. Nazim A. Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Consumer and SME Banking at Prime Bank, emphasized the importance of developing digital literacy, language proficiency, communication, and presentation skills alongside academic success.

He stated, “The primary objective of such initiatives is to offer students the right guidance for the future. Cultivating the habit of speaking in public and the ability to express their ideas effectively will help make them more confident and capable.”

Also speaking at the seminar were Shaila Abedin, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Liability, and M M Mahbub Hasan, Head of Financial Inclusion and School Banking. They underscored the role of youth development and financial literacy in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth. They highlighted Prime Bank’s ongoing efforts to empower young people and ensure easy access to financial services.

As part of the seminar, students were introduced to the “Prime Youth Account”—a student-friendly banking product designed to instill early financial responsibility. This product allows students to open accounts instantly and experience modern banking services firsthand.

On behalf of the university, Dr. Md. Sazedul Karim, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque, Advisor to the SUST Career Club, attended the event, reflecting the strong synergy between academia and industry.

In his closing remarks, Md. Humayun Kabir, Prime Bank’s Sylhet Regional Head, expressed sincere gratitude to the university administration, faculty, and students. He reaffirmed Prime Bank’s commitment to youth engagement, financial education, and inclusive development.

Both Prime Bank and SUST expressed interest in pursuing more collaborative initiatives in the future to equip Bangladesh’s youth with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities necessary for building a better and more advanced nation.
