International Women in Engineering Day 2025 was observed in Dhaka with a call to ensure dignity, rights, and safety for women engineers in the workplace. The Women Engineers’ Chapter of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), organized the event on Monday, June 23, through a rally and a discussion session in front of the Shaheed Engineer Bhaban in Ramna.

IEB President and RAJUK Chairman Engineer Mohammad Riazul Islam, speaking as the chief guest, stated, “To help women advance in their careers with greater confidence, we should establish daycare and childcare corners at IEB. If the Women Engineers’ Chapter comes forward in this regard, we will extend full support.”

Special guest Professor Dr. Engineer Md. Sabbir Mostafa Khan, Honorary General Secretary of IEB, said, “Women engineers still face various obstacles and harassment in the workplace. I propose forming an anti-harassment committee at IEB to address these issues.”

Engineer Ishrat Jahan, General Secretary of the chapter, emphasized, “Ensuring professional safety and a supportive environment is essential for the progress of women. IEB must take initiative in this regard.”

In her address, chapter Vice-Chairman Engineer Dilruba Farzana noted, “The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) of the UK first celebrated this day in 2014. It gained recognition from UNESCO in 2016 and is now observed internationally. We are proud to celebrate it in Bangladesh as well.”

The discussion was presided over and moderated by Engineer Dilruba Farzana, and attended by women engineers from various organizations and institutions. The event concluded with a rally.
