Dhaka’s popular Metro Rail service resumed operations after a brief 30-minute disruption caused by a wire thrown onto the overhead electrical line.

In a statement, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) reported that today, Sunday, November 2, a wire was thrown from outside onto the metro’s electrical line between Pallabi and Mirpur 11. As a result, metro operations were suspended from 12:40 pm to 1:10 pm. The company expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience.

By around 1:30 pm, metro services had returned to normal. However, higher passenger congestion was observed at every station, particularly at Uttara North.

Meanwhile, DMTCL has identified 45 different defects and shortcomings in the metro system under construction from Uttara to Motijheel. Among these, ten defects relate to signaling and telecommunications systems, 16 to electrical works, ten to viaduct and infrastructure construction, and nine to the train and its associated systems.

A 63-page document by DMTCL provides a detailed account of these defects and shortcomings.

Officials noted that due to these issues, metro operations have been temporarily halted 30–40 times since the service began, with suspensions lasting anywhere from 20 minutes to 22 hours.
