Citizens Chronicle Corruption: Adviser Receives 909 Complaints via Email

Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, has received a total of 909 complaints and suggestions from citizens regarding bribery, corruption, and irregularities through email. Among the first 400 emails reviewed, 128 were identified as actionable. Of these, 44 pertain directly to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, placing it at the top of the list. Another 17 complaints involve multiple ministries or departments, while only one complaint was related to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

This information was revealed through an administrative post published on Monday at 9:00 AM on the official Facebook page of Adviser Asif Mahmud.

The post stated: “On April 19, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, invited citizens to submit complaints and suggestions concerning bribery, corruption, and irregularities via email. As of May 11 (12:45 PM), a total of 909 emails had been received. A preliminary analysis of these emails has produced a list of complaints and suggestions, which has also been attached to the post.”

Regarding follow-up actions, it was mentioned that both the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have already initiated steps to address complaints and suggestions within their respective jurisdictions. Matters pertaining to other ministries and departments will be duly forwarded to the appropriate authorities. The review of the remaining emails is ongoing.

The post also detailed the number of complaints and suggestions received concerning other ministries and departments, including 32 for the Ministry of Home Affairs, 16 for the Ministry of Land, 8 for the Bangladesh Election Commission, 6 for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 5 each for the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Railways, 4 for the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, 2 each for the Ministries of Water Resources, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Education, and one each for several others including the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Prime Adviser’s Office.

Earlier, on April 19, Adviser Asif Mahmud made a Facebook post calling on citizens to report instances of bribery, corruption, and irregularities.
