Actress Pori Moni Files Cyber‑Libel Case Against Former Domestic Worker and Four Others

Bangladeshi film star Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, has initiated proceedings under the Cyber Security Act against five people for allegedly spreading defamatory content about her on social media and online news portals.
Judge Nure Alam of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal accepted the case on Wednesday and directed the officer‑in‑charge of Vatara Police Station to investigate and submit a report by 8 July, court clerk Md Jewel Mia confirmed.
The principal accused is Pinky Akter, a domestic worker whom Pori Moni says she hired through an agency on 5 March and paid a Tk 20,000 salary on 27 March. According to the complaint, Akter left the actress’s residence on 2 April and has since been “publishing false, fabricated and obscene statements,” which several digital outlets then amplified.
Also named are Morshed Suman, proprietor of the site Shokol Khobor, and the online platforms Pratidiner Bangladesh Entertainment, People’s News and Digital Khobor. Links to the disputed reports and social‑media videos have been included in the filing. Pori Moni attended the hearing in person; barristers Mohsin Reza, Mohima Bandhan and Sadman Sakib appeared on her behalf.
The suit follows a separate case lodged on Tuesday by Pinky Akter, who accuses Pori Moni and co‑resident Sourav (28) of assaulting her after the actress allegedly took drugs in a make‑up room. Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhtar recorded the maid’s statement and ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation to file findings by 8 May.
Akter earlier told the court she was beaten when feeding Pori Moni’s one‑year‑old child. Pori Moni’s legal team denies the allegations, calling them “baseless and malicious.”
The twin cases now move forward on parallel investigative tracks—one for alleged physical assault, the other for cyber defamation—setting the stage for a high‑profile legal battle in the coming months.
