Digital Drive: Online GD and FIR Filing Set to Launch on Trial Basis

The process of filing General Diaries (GDs), First Information Reports (FIRs), and criminal complaints will soon be piloted online, announced Md Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Home Affairs. He made the statement on Tuesday (April 15) while responding to a journalist's question following a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Ministry of Home Affairs conference room.
When asked about the persistent public dissatisfaction with police services at local stations and the resulting rise in criminal activity, Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury said, “The issue of police not receiving complaints is an old one. Initially, we will bring two services online—General Diary (GD) and FIR. We are going to launch online GDs in two districts, and you will receive a statement from Police Headquarters. Very soon, FIRs will also be made available online. We hope this will lead to a permanent solution to these issues.”
At the same event, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury remarked, “Everything we do is for the people. But there are many things we cannot reach the people with. We handle everything centrally. We are trying to deliver these services nationwide. In some areas we are succeeding, while in others we are making mistakes.”
When his attention was drawn to the disparity in law enforcement actions during anti-discrimination student movements—where grassroots leaders face arrest while central figures remain untouched—he responded, “I cannot completely agree with you on that. We are not sparing the big fish. But the big fish must fall into the net. If they don’t, we can’t catch them. Whoever falls into the net, we are catching them. No one has been spared. If we had, you could point it out.”
The adviser also announced that the new police uniform and logo will be implemented gradually across the force.
Responding to a query about a recent comment made in Kishoreganj regarding the government’s tenure, which stirred political debate, he clarified, “I didn’t say it. The people said it, not me. The Chief Adviser has already made it clear that the elections will take place between December and June. So I have no reason to comment further on this.”
