Meta to Launch New Division for AI-Powered Humanoid Robots

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is set to establish a new division dedicated to developing AI-driven humanoid robots. The division will operate under Reality Labs and will focus on research and development to create advanced robots capable of assisting with physical tasks, according to a report by Reuters.

An internal memo obtained by Reuters reveals that Meta's Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, has stated that this project will further enhance the capabilities of Meta’s LLaMA AI model. The initiative will be led by Mark Whitten, former CEO of Cruise, an autonomous vehicle manufacturing company.

This move signals Meta’s entry into competition with companies such as Figure AI, backed by NVIDIA, and Tesla. However, Meta does not plan to release its own branded robots. Instead, it will focus on providing sensors, software, and AI technology for robotics applications.

Advancements in AI technology are driving innovation in robotics, though AI chatbots have yet to significantly improve real-world comprehension. Meta has long been researching "Embodied AI," which aims to develop intelligent AI assistants capable of understanding and interacting with the physical world in the future.
