The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for online income tax return submissions for taxpayers unable to file due to technical issues with the e-return system. Previously, the deadline was extended for the fourth time to 31 March.

This information was announced in an official order issued on 26 February, signed by NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan.

The order states that, according to sub-section (4) of section 328 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, online income tax return submission is mandatory for all general individual taxpayers, excluding those mentioned in serial no. 1 of special order no. 1/2025.

However, if any general individual taxpayer is unable to file their return online due to registration problems with the e-return system, they can apply to the relevant Deputy Commissioner of Taxes by 15 March, specifying the reasons. With the approval of the relevant Additional or Joint Commissioner of Taxes, they will be allowed to submit paper returns.
