Bomb Blasts Rock Madaripur Village in Four-Hour Clash
More than a hundred crude bombs were reportedly detonated during a late-night clash between two rival groups in the village of ‘Notun Madaripur’ under Madaripur Sadar upazila. The violent confrontation, which took place under the cover of darkness with torchlights, lasted for nearly four hours—from 9:00pm to 1:00am on Saturday, February 21—leaving at least two people injured.
Several videos of the bomb explosions circulated widely on social media shortly after the incident. Although police brought the situation under control later that night, panic continues to grip the area.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the conflict stemmed from a long-standing dispute over local dominance between supporters of Akter Howlader and Hasan Munshi in Notun Madaripur village. The rivalry had reportedly led to repeated clashes in the past.
On Saturday night, the tension escalated into a prolonged confrontation, with both sides allegedly using locally made weapons. During the clash, more than a hundred crude bombs were exploded, intensifying fear among residents. At least two individuals sustained injuries in the violence.
Law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information and managed to restore order.
Confirming the incident, Abul Kalam Azad, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, told local journalists that legal action is being taken. “Additional police have been deployed as a tense situation prevails in the area. The clashes frequently occur between the two groups over local dominance,” he said.
