A purported “top secret” document circulating on social media under the name of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), allegedly outlining plans to declare Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s ‘Scales’ symbol victorious and to suppress the post-election situation, has been confirmed to be entirely fake and fabricated. The information was verified on Friday (6 February) by the Fact-Check Unit of the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing and by NSI sources.

The document, which has recently spread online, claims that showing 75 percent of postal ballots in favour of Jamaat and declaring the party victorious was an “irreversible administrative decision.” It also alleges that a “zero-tolerance” policy was planned to suppress any dissent or protest within 48 hours after the announcement of election results.

The so-called document reportedly contains six sections: ideological and strategic basis, results and data management, security and control, communication and code language, confidential distribution list, and special warnings. Under each heading, various directives are outlined regarding the announcement of election results and the management of the post-election situation.

However, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing stated that multiple inconsistencies were identified in the document circulated in the name of the NSI. While the memorandum number at the beginning appears in English, handwritten Bengali numerals are used at the end. The date format does not match standard government conventions. Similarly, the format used for forwarding copies does not follow official documentation practices. In addition, the language and presentation of the document show signs of artificial construction. Notably, the use of dash symbols (—), English abbreviations such as NSI, EC and CEC, and unusual word choices further raise doubts about its authenticity.

The Fact-Check Unit of the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed that the alleged confidential document attributed to the NSI is not genuine. It said the document was created through digital editing without any credible source, misusing the name of the NSI to spread misinformation.

Meanwhile, media reports quoting NSI sources have stated that no such plan exists and that the circulated content is completely baseless. According to the intelligence agency, a vested group is deliberately conducting this disinformation campaign to create confusion ahead of the election.

Additionally, a report published in the daily Desh Rupantor also addressed the issue. Citing NSI sources, the report stated that the claim of such a plan is entirely false.

Therefore, the alleged secret document circulated in the name of the NSI to engineer the victory of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s ‘Scales’ symbol is false and fabricated.
