EC to Deploy Drones to Secure Election Commission Building on Polling Day
The Election Commission (EC) will deploy drones to ensure security at the Election Commission Building during the voting for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and the referendum scheduled for 12 February. A source at the Commission said the EC will formally notify law enforcement agencies, requesting them to take the necessary measures in this regard.
According to the source, drones have never been used before to secure the EC building in Agargaon. However, the Commission has decided to adopt this measure this time as the overall situation is considered more “critical” than usual. It has been learned that the drones will be used specifically on polling day, 12 February, to strengthen security around the EC premises.
Under the EC’s directives, the use of drones will remain prohibited nationwide on election day. Nevertheless, law enforcement agencies will be allowed to operate drones if deemed necessary for security purposes.
Meanwhile, to ensure a smooth voting process, the interim government has allocated funds for the use of existing CCTV cameras at polling centres and for the installation of CCTV cameras at centres where such facilities were previously unavailable.
