Jamaat Chief Decries Online Abuse, Urges Decency in Digital Spaces
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over the growing trend of attacking dissenting opinions, dishonouring women, and harassing individuals through the misuse of technology and artificial intelligence on social media.
He voiced this concern in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, 10 December.
In his post, the Jamaat chief wrote that the current pattern of online aggression targeting differing views, the disrespect shown towards women, and the harassment of people using technology or AI is “highly alarming.” He added that when someone engages in such indecency while identifying with religion, it strikes a severe blow to core moral values.
He further noted that political differences do not equate to enmity. “Islam teaches us that a believer can never be someone who abuses or curses others,” he wrote, citing a Hadith from Tirmidhi.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also stated that the Holy Qur’an instructs believers to speak in a dignified manner and refrain from mocking one another. He emphasized that responding to differing opinions with logic and courtesy is a hallmark of a true Muslim, and that insults or character assassination can never be tools of a Muslim—or any civilized individual.
In his call to the public, the Jamaat Ameer urged: “Let us uphold our faith and dignity online as well. Every word we utter is being recorded by Almighty Allah. Let us build society with reason and civility—not hatred.”
