Faridpur district police have identified that falsehoods and misleading propaganda are being spread on social media by concealing actual facts. Police Headquarters disclosed the information on Monday, 24 November, citing Faridpur district police.

According to the statement, a recent online news portal and a Facebook page published a report titled “Clash over temple land in Faridpur’s Sadarpur: Hindu families fleeing, police patrolling.” The report claimed that tension had arisen in the area over a land dispute involving the Radha Gobinda Temple and that at least 500 Hindu families were leaving the village. District police investigations found these claims to be baseless, exaggerated, and part of an attempt to disrupt communal harmony.

The statement further said that Mahadev Ghosh had owned 46 decimals of land recorded in Khatian number 584, Dag numbers 412/413 of Harina Mouza. Around 6–7 months ago, he sold the land through legal deed to local resident Babul Bepari and Hindu community member Sushanta Malo.

After learning about the sale, Mahadev Ghosh’s rival claimant Manik Ghosh asserted that the land belonged to a public temple. The sale led to disputes between the sellers, buyers, and the rival claimant group. At dawn on 16 November, clashes broke out between the two sides over taking possession of the land, resulting in several injuries. Sadarpur Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. Sushanta Malo was detained and later Babul Bepari was also arrested. The situation is currently normal in the area.

District police said that claims such as “500 Hindu families fleeing in fear of attacks” or “severe insecurity in the area” are completely false and misleading. Field investigations did not find evidence of any family leaving the locality. The entire area remains under round-the-clock police surveillance.

The district police further clarified that the dispute is entirely about land ownership, not a communal conflict. People from both Hindu and Muslim communities are involved on both sides. A vested quarter is attempting to portray a simple land dispute as a “communal attack” in order to create social unrest. Urging the public to refrain from provocative or misleading posts, police said strict legal action will be taken against any attempt to harm communal harmony.

Residents have been urged not to panic and to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order.
