Metro Resumes: Farmgate Functions After Fatal Fall

After nearly 23 hours of suspension, metro rail services through the Farmgate station in Dhaka resumed operations on Monday, October 27, at 11:16 a.m. following the completion of bearing pad installation on pillar number 433. At that time, two trains—one from Uttara and the other from Motijheel—departed simultaneously, both carrying passengers from Farmgate station.

While the first train arriving from Uttara had few passengers, the one from Motijheel was packed. Both trains left the station on schedule, though they were seen entering and departing the Farmgate area at a very slow speed following the temporary shutdown.

Earlier, at around 10:45 a.m., the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) announced through its official verified Facebook page that “metro rail services from Uttara North to Motijheel will resume uninterruptedly from 11:00 a.m. today (Monday). The authorities sincerely apologize for the temporary inconvenience.”

Md. Ahsan Ullah Sharifee, Deputy Project Director (Public Relations) of DMTCL, confirmed that full-route operations had resumed from 11:00 a.m.

The suspension occurred after a tragic accident on October 26, around 12:30 p.m., when a bearing pad fell from a Farmgate metro rail pillar, killing a pedestrian named Abul Kalam, a resident of Naria, Shariatpur. Following the incident, metro operations between Uttara and Motijheel were halted entirely, before being gradually restored across stations.
