Engineers Emphasize Empowerment for a Democratic and Developed Bangladesh

The Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB) organized a discussion meeting on the role of engineers in building a democratic and developed Bangladesh. The event was held on Saturday, October 18, at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Ramna, Dhaka.
Former State Minister and BNP National Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed attended the discussion as the chief guest.
Special guests included Engr. A. N. H. Akhtar Hossain, PEng., Acting President and Chief Adviser of AEB, former President of IEB, and a former Secretary. The welcome address was delivered by Engr. Helal Uddin Talukder, Chairman of IEB Dhaka Centre and Convener of the Organizing Committee.
Other speakers included BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Engr. Khaled Hasan Chowdhury Pahin, Engr. Sufiul Alam Talukder Sabuj, Engr. Mia Mohammad Kaium, Engr. Khan Monjur Morshed, and Engr. Atikur Rahman, among others.
The session was presided over by former Member of Parliament and AEB Convener Engr. Shahreen Islam Tuhin. The program was conducted by Engr. K. M. Asaduzzaman Chunnu and Engr. Shafiul Azam Fahim. From the Media Subcommittee, Convener Engr. Muhammad Ahsanul Rasel and Member Secretary Engr. K. M. Farzadul Islam Miron were present.
In his keynote address, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “To transform Bangladesh into a developed nation, we must ensure the right manpower in every sector. Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman envisioned a production-oriented political and education system—where skilled and meritorious individuals engage in politics, and politicians remain technologically updated.”
He further stated, “Engineers are the driving force of nation-building. Due to the incompetence and corruption of the current ruling regime, both the cost and duration of mega projects have multiplied. Engineers must take the lead in putting an end to this plunder.”
In his special remarks, Engr. Akhtar Hossain said, “Engineers have long been neglected and repressed. Their representation in the parliament must increase to ensure a constructive role in national development.”
Presiding over the event, Engr. Shahreen Islam Tuhin said, “If BNP returns to power through democratic means, we will implement technology-driven development plans focusing on power, communication, artificial intelligence, blue economy, and climate adaptation.”
Speakers at the discussion emphasized that to build a democratic and technology-driven Bangladesh, engineers must work in unity, as they not only design infrastructure but also help define the nation’s future direction.
