Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) hosted its largest-ever research festival, Eureka (Season–1), where outstanding researchers were honored for their contributions linking academic excellence with real-world applications.
At the event, Mohammad Abir Rahman, a student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), won the Undergraduate Thesis of the Year award, while Jannatul Ferdous, an MSc student from the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), received the Postgraduate Thesis of the Year honor.
Abir Rahman’s groundbreaking research, titled “AI Answers—without seeing your question,” explores how artificial intelligence can respond to queries without directly accessing sensitive data. His study demonstrates how homomorphic encryption allows AI to generate responses securely without viewing private information. The research establishes that combining homomorphic encryption with secure aggregation techniques can create a safer and more efficient federated learning framework for large language models (LLMs), thereby ensuring enhanced data privacy. Abir’s research was supervised by Professor Dr. Kazi M. Rokibul Alam of KUET.
On the other hand, PhD researcher Jannatul Ferdous conducted her study titled “Modeling Hemodynamics for Cerebrovascular Diseases and Drug Behavior.” Her computational modeling analyzes how variations in cerebral blood flow dynamics influence conditions such as stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, as well as how different drugs interact with blood flow. The research provides a scientific framework for understanding the interrelation among blood flow, disease progression, and pharmaceutical efficacy.
In the Technical Writing category, Udita Rahman Orshi from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering emerged as the champion. The runners-up were Dhrubo Jyoti Das and Md. Samiul Islam from the EEE Department, representing Team Quantum Spark, while the second runners-up title went to Syed Riaz Mahmud of the Department of Building Engineering and Construction Management.
In the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) Presentation, Fardin Islam from the Department of Architecture and Nusrat Jahan Nabila from the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management received the Winner Awards for their outstanding performances.
Organized by the KUET Research Society (KRS) under the Academic Achievement and Skill Development Center (AASDC), the event took place on Saturday, October 18, with the goal of strengthening the bridge between research and industrial innovation.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Md. Khalekuzzaman of the Civil Engineering Department said, “Innovation becomes meaningful when research outcomes are linked to real-life problems. Industry–academia collaboration is the bridge that turns theory into reality.”
Professor Dr. Kazi Hamidul Bari, Advisor of KUET Research Society, remarked, “Eureka Season–1 marks a new chapter in KUET’s research culture. It has demonstrated how academic research can drive national industrial progress.”
Professor Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain, Director of AASDC, stated, “Our aim is to create an environment where students learn to think not just as engineers but as innovators. Eureka is a part of that vision.”
Nafis Ahmed Pantho, President of KUET Research Society, added, “The core objective of this competition was to connect university research with real-world challenges. True development is possible only when research responds to practical needs.”
According to organizers, the festival drew over 400 participants and more than 50 industry and academic experts. The highlight of the symposium was the internationally recognized Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition, held in over 85 countries worldwide, where participants presented the essence of their research within just three minutes.
Eureka (Season–1) has been hailed as a milestone in promoting research-driven innovation and industry–academia synergy, marking a new era in Bangladesh’s higher education and scientific advancement.
