Facebook Feud: Mamunul Files GD Over ‘Unjust Restrictions’
Accusing Facebook authorities of unilateral, undemocratic, and discriminatory conduct, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Amir Maulana Mamunul Haque has filed a General Diary (GD). He lodged the GD at Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital on Monday, August 25.
In a press release issued later on behalf of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Mamunul Haque stated that his personal Facebook ID and official page have repeatedly been removed and suspended. He alleged that not only his accounts, but any publication of his name, speech, or photographs on party pages, media outlets, or personal accounts are being subjected to unjust restrictions.
He said, “For the past several months, my name, speech, and photos have been unfairly restricted and blocked on Facebook. As a result, my personal Facebook ID facebook.com/mawlanamamunulhaqueofficial and my official page facebook.com/MaulanaMamunulHaque have been shut down multiple times. This has caused me severe social, professional, and political losses.”
He further added that despite being the head of a registered political party, he is being systematically blocked from social media, which he described as “a clear attempt to silence democratic politics.”
“I have filed a GD at the police station in accordance with the law against Facebook’s unjust behavior. I hope Meta authorities will reconsider the matter and take a fair decision,” Mamunul said.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, in its statement, asserted that targeting a political leader through social media restrictions constitutes a grave violation of freedom of expression and democratic rights.
