National Programming Contest 2025 Concludes with Enthusiastic Youth Participation
The national round of the National High School Programming Contest (NHSPC) 2025 was held in Dhaka on June 21, bringing together regional winners selected from 64 districts across 16 public universities. Thousands of students competed at the regional level, with top performers qualifying for the national stage.
In the national round, Aritra Sarker, an eighth-grade student from Khulna Zilla School, emerged as the winner in the junior category of the programming contest. In the secondary category, the winner was Rayyan Ferdous, a ninth-grade student from BAF Shaheen College. Debjyoti Dash Soumya from Jalalabad Cantonment Public School and College took the top spot in the higher secondary programming category.
In the quiz competition, sixth-grade student Md. Tahsin Kabir won the junior category, while Raihan Mahbub, a tenth-grade student, claimed victory in the senior category.
A four-member team—comprising Siam Chowdhury, Rayyan Rashid Mugdho, Warsia Khushbu, and Nilabha Chowdhury—won the chess competition.
The quiz and chess segments were hosted at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in Khamarbari, Dhaka. Meanwhile, programming contests were held at the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka, and the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC). The event concluded in the evening with a prize distribution ceremony at KIB. Throughout the day, sessions on artificial intelligence, discussions on cyber security, and cultural programs also took place.
Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, Dr. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology), expressed his optimism, saying, “This generation will lead the way for the future. Today's programmers will guide the nation forward as beacons of light.”
Information and Communication Technology Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury remarked during the prize-giving, “The government is planning in full consideration of Bangladesh’s digital transformation. In the future, this program will be organized on an even larger scale.”
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Md. Zaforul Alam Khan, Director of BCC, and Professor Dr. B.M. Mainul Hossain, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka.
Dr. Muhammad Mehedi Hasan, Executive Director of BCC, presided over the ceremony. “Our aim is to build a merit-based society,” he said. “These competitions prepare the younger generation to face future challenges.”
The regional rounds of the NHSPC began on May 28, with the first events held at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, and University of Barishal. These rounds included students from Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrokona, Sherpur, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Gazipur, Bhola, Barishal, and Jhalokathi.
On May 29 and 30, additional regional rounds were conducted at Comilla University and the University of Dhaka’s Institute of Information Technology, covering students from Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Chandpur, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, and Manikganj.
After the Eid holidays, on June 16, three regional rounds were held at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Rajshahi University, and Khulna University, representing 13 districts including Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Joypurhat, Chapainawabganj, Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Magura, and Narail.
On June 17, three more venues hosted competitions: Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (for Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, and Nilphamari), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (for Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Rangamati), and Begum Rokeya University (for Rangpur, Bogura, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and Gaibandha).
The final set of regional events was held on June 18 at five institutions: Noakhali Science and Technology University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Gopalganj University of Science and Technology, and Pabna University of Science and Technology. These rounds included participants from 20 districts: Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Jashore, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Natore.
The NHSPC 2025 was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and the Information and Communication Technology Division. Partner organizations included the Bangladesh Chess Federation, the Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE) project, and the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA).
