Click-to-Cancel Clause Coming in July: FTC Delays Enforcement

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has postponed the enforcement of its new “Click-to-Cancel” rule—originally slated for May 14—to July 14, according to The Verge.
The rule aims to simplify the cancellation process for consumers, making it as straightforward to unsubscribe from a service as it is to sign up for one online. Customers will no longer need to navigate unnecessarily complex procedures to cancel subscriptions.
“The same way it’s easy to sign up online, it must be equally easy to cancel online,” the FTC stated.
The Commission said the delay was intended to ease implementation pressure on businesses. The decision to postpone was passed by a 3–0 vote, though two of the five commissioners were absent, having been allegedly dismissed unlawfully in March by former President Donald Trump.
The FTC confirmed that the rule will be fully enforced starting July 14. However, it added that there remains flexibility for revisions if any enforcement issues arise.
