Brazil Boosts SpaceX's Starlink Satellite Approval

Brazil's telecommunications regulator, Anatel, has granted approval for Elon Musk's company, SpaceX, to operate an additional 7,500 Starlink satellites in the country. In a statement released on Tuesday, Anatel revealed that this new authorization would more than double the number of satellites currently approved in Brazil, which stands at 4,408. According to Reuters, this approval expands the frequency bands used by Starlink's satellites.

Anatel also noted that while the new approval expands the number of satellites, SpaceX's operational license will remain valid until 2027, the same as its previous term.

While SpaceX has yet to officially comment on the approval, Anatel stated that there is a need to update the country’s regulatory framework regarding market dominance, space sustainability, and digital sovereignty. The agency hinted at potential policy revisions in the future, considering these issues.
