Starlink Starts Trial Operations in Bangladesh

Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, has begun its trial operations in Bangladesh. The news was shared by Asif Mahmud, the Youth and Sports Advisor to the Interim Government, on his verified Facebook page at 10:57 AM on Wednesday, April 9. He wrote in his post, “Starlink internet service’s experimental journey has started in Bangladesh today.”

Earlier, on April 6, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), stated, "We had promised them that they could begin operations within 90 days, and in line with that commitment, Starlink was granted approval on March 29."

For foreign companies to operate in Bangladesh, it is mandatory to register with BIDA, and Starlink has been granted such registration.

Ashik Mahmud also mentioned that Starlink’s internet service would be used for the live broadcast of the Bangladesh Investment Conference, held today at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital. He added that all participants at the conference would have access to Starlink’s internet service.

On February 13, a telephone conversation took place between Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, during which they discussed the possibility of launching Starlink’s satellite internet service in Bangladesh and future collaboration opportunities.
