Leveraging advanced threat intelligence and endpoint detection infrastructure, global cybersecurity firm Kaspersky neutralised over 75 million web-borne attacks in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region during the first half of 2026. August 12, 2026, Wednesday—the data was revealed by Kaspersky's Global Research and Analysis Team (GREAT) based on Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) telemetry metrics. The security telemetry highlights 3.4 million backdoor exploits, 2.4 million password-stealing attempts, and 250,000 targeted ransomware vectors.
Sergey Lozhkin, Lead of APAC & META Research Unit at Kaspersky GREAT, noted, "While certain attack volumes dipped slightly in H1 2026, threat actors are increasingly deploying artificial intelligence (AI) agents for reconnaissance, payload obfuscation, and automated attack execution." He further highlighted that Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) accounted for 24% of high-severity incidents globally in 2025. Currently tracking over 900 APT groups, GREAT identified China, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Vietnam among the top 12 most targeted nations worldwide.
The telemetry also underlines a sharp increase in software supply chain compromises. Open-source ecosystem analysis registered 19,484 malicious packages in 2025—a 37% jump from 2024. Attacks exploiting trusted platforms like Iscan, Notepad++, DAEMON Tools, and Axios demonstrate how adversaries abuse trusted code repositories. To mitigate these evolving vectors, Kaspersky advises enterprise architectures to implement EDR, XDR, and Managed Detection and Response (MDR) frameworks backed by threat intelligence feed integration.
