Standard Chartered provides 25 laptops for digital education in chars

Dhaka, August 9, Sunday: Standard Chartered Bangladesh has provided 25 laptops through development organisation Friendship to expand digital learning opportunities for students in the climate-vulnerable char areas of Kurigram and Gaibandha.

Standard Chartered Bangladesh Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Enamul Haque said the laptops would help students make the best use of digital learning opportunities. He said the joint initiative with Friendship over the past year has brought positive changes to students in the char areas.

He said reliable internet connectivity has been introduced in five schools under the initiative. Student attendance rates and examination results have also improved. Enamul Haque said, “I believe the laptops will help students make the best use of digital learning opportunities.”

Friendship Founder and Executive Director Runa Khan said providing a laptop to a child in a remote char area means more than offering technological access; it opens a new door to knowledge.

She said the initiative enables students to connect with the global environment beyond the limitations of their Char communities. It also builds their confidence to dream on a larger scale while creating new opportunities and hope.

In a press release sent to the media on August 9, it was said that Standard Chartered Bangladesh and Friendship have been working jointly since 2016 to support marginalised communities in areas including health, education, agriculture and the environment.

Through the partnership, numerous students have already received support to adapt to the modern digital world through quality education, digital learning, career guidance, technical and vocational training, environmental and language education, access to international trade opportunities and inclusive education.
