Apple Says More Than 100,000 Apps Are Now Optimised for Its First Foldable iPhone Duo

Following the launch of Apple's first foldable smartphone, the 'iPhone Duo', the initial shortage of apps and software specifically designed for the device drew some criticism. However, the US technology giant has confirmed that the situation in its software ecosystem is changing rapidly.

In a recent official announcement, the company said that more than 100,000 apps specifically optimised for the iPhone Duo are now available on the App Store, with thousands of additional applications being added every day.

App Optimisation and Resolution of Visual Issues

When the device first entered the market, non-optimised or standard apps often displayed black bars or empty spaces around the edges of the screen, creating an inconvenient visual experience for users. However, the addition of a large number of new apps is helping to address this problem significantly.

Applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, Zoom, sports apps from the NBA and NHL, e-commerce platform Etsy, and modern productivity apps such as Goodnotes and Halide Mark III Camera have now been refined to work with the foldable display.

Platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp were already part of the list. However, the latest updates have expanded the range of compatible applications considerably.

Developer Engagement and In-Person Workshops

Apple's special initiatives have also played an important role in driving this rapid progress among software developers. To accelerate app adaptation for the foldable display, Apple organised more than 50 'in-person workshops' across 19 major cities worldwide, attracting over 2,000 app developers.

During these workshops, developers worked directly on iPhone Duo devices in real time and received technical guidance from Apple engineers to improve their applications' performance.

High Demand and Supply Shortages

Despite being a premium foldable device with a starting price of around $2,000 or more, the iPhone Duo witnessed exceptionally high demand in the global market. All handsets in the first batch sold out within just a few hours of pre-orders opening, pushing shipping and delivery timelines into the beginning of next year.

Apple has said that it is difficult to specify exactly when the current supply shortage will be fully resolved.

However, the company expressed hope that new foldable versions of global services such as Spotify, Facebook Messenger, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Canva and Google Translate will reach all users' devices very soon.
