Google’s Gemini Surpasses 1 Billion Monthly Users
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed on social media platform X that the company’s AI app, Gemini, has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users worldwide. It is the fastest-growing product in Google’s history and the 14th Google product to join the elite 1-billion-user club.
Catching Up With ChatGPT and Search AI
Gemini’s rapid growth has intensified its direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the artificial intelligence market. ChatGPT entered the 1-billion-user club last June. Google has been deeply integrating Gemini with Search, Google Workspace and Android.
Separately, Google’s AI Mode in Search is also being actively used by more than 1 billion users.
How Users Are Using Gemini
Google has highlighted several notable figures about user engagement with the Gemini app:
- Voice dominates: Around 63% of app users interact with Gemini directly through voice.
- Image generation: More than 150 million images are being generated through Gemini worldwide every day.
- iOS users: Gemini has more than 100 million active users on Apple’s iOS platform alone, in addition to its Android user base.
As AI technology continues to evolve, Google has also introduced the Gemini 3.5 Flash model to make coding and autonomous AI-agent tasks easier.
According to figures for the second quarter of 2026, Gemini had 950 million users before rapidly climbing to the 1-billion mark.
Google is also expected to announce more Gemini-powered features for Pixel devices at its upcoming Made by Google event.
