Apple Rolls Out iOS 26.2.1 with Full Support for Second-Generation AirTag
Apple has rolled out new software updates—iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1—for its users. Although the update appears minor based on its version number, it introduces a significant new feature: full support for the second-generation AirTag, according to GSM Arena.
The new AirTag is equipped with an advanced ultra-wideband (UWB) chip that significantly enhances the Precision Finding feature. As a result, users can now locate lost items from nearly 50 percent greater distances compared to the previous generation.
In addition, the updated AirTag includes an improved Bluetooth chip, which not only extends its operational range but also makes its built-in speaker considerably louder. Apple claims the alert sound is approximately 50 percent louder than before, making it easier to track misplaced items.
Once iOS 26.2.1 or iPadOS 26.2.1 is installed, users will be able to control and manage the new AirTag directly from their devices. Apple has also stated that the update includes several undisclosed bug fixes aimed at improving overall system stability and performance.
Eligible iPhone and iPad users can download the update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update, where the installation process will begin automatically.
