China Eyes Expanded Cooperation with Bangladesh in Digital Economy, Green Technology and Skills Development

China has signaled its intention to broaden future cooperation with Bangladesh by placing greater emphasis on digital economy, green technology, technology transfer and human resource development alongside traditional infrastructure and investment initiatives.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first official visit to China resulted in a series of agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral engagement across education, health, skills development and media sectors.

As part of cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI), two separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance collaboration in technical and vocational education. Additional agreements were reached covering health, education and workforce development.

Four additional MoUs were signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the media sector, promote the use of modern technologies and improve information exchange.

During the closing press briefing, Prime Minister’s adviser Mahdi Amin described the visit as an important step toward deepening Bangladesh–China relations.

He said both countries discussed expanding people-to-people connectivity through culture, media, technology, knowledge transfer and employment generation.

According to him, Bangladesh is prioritizing Mandarin as a third-language learning option and expanding technical and vocational education, areas where China has offered support based on its own development experience.

China has also expressed willingness to provide language instructors and infrastructural assistance to support Mandarin education initiatives in Bangladesh.

Before the visit, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam stated that preparations had been made to sign 13 MoUs, two agreements, one protocol and one action plan during the visit.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman returned to Dhaka on 26 June, arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:45 pm Bangladesh time. Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony said the Prime Minister departed Beijing aboard a China Southern Airlines flight at 5:16 pm local time.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Dr. Zubaida Rahman and members of the official delegation. Senior government officials and political leaders welcomed the delegation upon arrival.
