Starlink has been granted “unfiltered” data facility in data transit in Bangladesh, following its application, said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Emdad ul Bari.

He made the announcement at the closing session of the 21st bdNOG conference, held on 9 May, Saturday, bringing together network engineers from across the country.

After a two-day workshop and three sessions held until the evening at a hotel in Uttara, Dhaka, the closing ceremony took place. At the event’s conclusion, the BTRC Chairman also expressed the intention to make IPv6 mandatory for government web portals and public procurement tenders.

He said that, through networking, another global dimension beyond Earth is emerging. “We are considering removing licensing barriers, but that is not currently possible. We want everyone in the sector to receive fair value. Through cooperation and coordination, we expect you to strengthen this industry,” he said.

He also stated that a committee comprising business stakeholders will soon be formed.

Director of BPC and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Razzakul Islam assured full cooperation to ISPAB for conducting a survey and study to determine the present and future of the ISP business. He called on stakeholders to develop the capacity to ensure data protection while enabling open data access.

Speaking at the event, moderated by bdNOG General Secretary Borkotul Alam Biplob, ISPAB Secretary General Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan emphasized interconnection among local NIXs, moving away from India-dependent CDN systems.

ISPAB President Aminul Hakim also urged participants to apply for fellowships by 15 May for registration to the 44th SANOG conference to be held in Nepal.

Among others, BTRC Director General Brigadier General Shafiul Alam Parvez attended the event as a special guest.
