Fiber Future Focus: Minister Calls for Tri-Partite Talks to Build Cable-Free Dhaka
Science and Technology and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has emphasized the importance of a tripartite meeting involving cable operators, ISPs, and city corporations to transform the capital Dhaka into a cable-free and modern city.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the three-day “ICBC Expo 2026,” held on 9 May, Saturday at ICCB Bashundhara in the capital. He also urged all concerned parties to come forward with a sense of social responsibility to preserve the aesthetic beauty of the city.
In his speech, the Minister said that cable operators and ISP companies are linked to the employment of millions of people in the country. Therefore, it is the government’s responsibility to sustain this industry by aligning it with modern technology. However, he placed particular emphasis on ethics in technology use, ensuring customer data security, and maintaining service quality. He also called for increased local content production and expanded international partnerships.
Highlighting that Bangladesh’s cable television, broadcasting, and telecommunications sectors have entered a new era through technological transformation, he added that with the expansion of smart technologies, fiber optic networks, and IPTV, the sector has now become a key driver of the ICT-based economy. The government is prioritizing infrastructure development, policy support, and the creation of skilled human resources to modernize the sector.
The event was presided over by ABM Saiful Hossain Sohel, President of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB). Special guests included Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan and Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam. Also present at the অনুষ্ঠানে were ATCO General Secretary and Ekushey Television Chairman Abdus Salam, along with members of COAB.
Following the closing session, the Minister visited various stalls at the exhibition. Prizes were also distributed to the lucky winners of the raffle draw.
