Global e-commerce and technology giant Amazon is once again moving toward large-scale corporate layoffs. According to information from news agency Reuters, the company is planning to lay off thousands of employees starting next week.

In this phase, the impact of the layoffs may extend to Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing arm, as well as its retail business, Prime Video division, and human resources unit.

Earlier, in October, Amazon laid off nearly 14,000 white-collar employees, accounting for almost half of a previously planned total of 30,000 job cuts. Sources familiar with the matter have indicated that the number of employees affected in the upcoming round of layoffs could be similar in scale. However, Amazon authorities have not made any official comment on the matter so far.

Amazon’s Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy has stated that the primary reason behind these layoffs is not financial pressure or artificial intelligence, but rather excessive bureaucracy and a complex corporate culture. According to him, the number of organizational layers and personnel within the company has grown unnecessarily.

If the planned 30,000 layoffs are fully implemented, they would amount to around 10 percent of Amazon’s corporate workforce. This would mark the largest job cut in Amazon’s three-decade-long history.
