Chipmaker MediaTek is set to unveil two new chipsets at a special event in China on January 15. The tech community is particularly focused on the much-anticipated Dimensity 8500, which is expected to arrive as the successor to the Dimensity 8450 and 8400. Positioned in the upper mid-range segment, the chipset is already believed to have built a strong reputation. The information was reported by GSM Arena.

The official announcement is now largely seen as a formality, as the recently launched Honor Power 2 smartphone has already been confirmed to use the Dimensity 8500.

Meanwhile, speculation suggests that another new chipset will also be unveiled at the same event, possibly from the Dimensity 9 series.

According to Chinese sources, the new processor may be named the Dimensity 9500S and is expected to be an entirely new chipset.

Manufactured using TSMC’s N3E 3-nanometre process, the chip is likely to feature a powerful CPU and an advanced graphics unit, potentially setting a new benchmark for future flagship Android devices.
