Samsung to Unveil Its First AI-Powered Smart Glasses Next Month
South Korean technology giant Samsung is preparing to unveil its first artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses, also known as 'intelligent eyewear', as early as next month, challenging Meta's dominance in the smart wearable technology market.
According to a report published by South Korean technology news outlet ChosunBiz, citing sources familiar with the matter, the device could be officially launched simultaneously in the United States and South Korea in mid-December 2026. Samsung reportedly plans to introduce it gradually in Europe, China and Japan in early 2027.
Technical Specifications and Software Performance
The prototype of the glasses was first demonstrated last May at Google's I/O conference as part of the Android XR platform. The device is powered by Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1' chipset, specifically designed to operate lightweight smart glasses.
The main attraction is the direct integration of Google's Gemini AI technology. This will allow users to obtain information about objects in front of them, translate written text and spoken language in real time, and use voice-guided navigation without having to look at their smartphones.
The device features a 12-megapixel camera, stereo speakers and a multi-microphone array. Samsung claims that its battery will provide up to nine hours of use on a single charge. However, the glasses do not include a separate built-in screen or display. Like Meta's Ray-Ban glasses, they will function primarily as an audio- and camera-based smart accessory. Samsung has also begun work on a second version that will include a display, which it plans to launch later.
Balancing Style and Market Pricing
Alongside technical capabilities, Samsung has placed particular emphasis on the glasses' fashion appeal and design. Through strategic partnerships with international eyewear brands 'Gentle Monster' and 'Warby Parker', the device will reportedly be marketed in multiple styles and colour options.
Samsung has yet to announce the glasses' final official price. However, according to leaked information, the device could be priced between $349 and $499. With the third-generation Meta Ray-Ban glasses starting at $449, technology analysts consider Samsung's anticipated price range highly competitive.
