Dhaka’s Digital District Debuts: New ‘Computer City’ Launched in Eskaton
A new IT commercial hub, Dhaka Computer City (DCC), has been inaugurated in the capital’s Eskaton area. Established on 13 kathas of land, with a 15-storey building covering 6 kathas, the complex features gardens, a food court, double-basement parking, and multiple entertainment facilities. Positioned between BCS Computer City and Multiplan’s ECS Computer City, the new market aims to serve tech consumers across Rampura, Banasree, Gulshan, Wari, Moghbazar, and Bailey Road.
The logo of Dhaka Computer City was formally unveiled through a cake-cutting ceremony on Sunday, 9 November, by Muhammad Monirul Islam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS). Also present were BCS Director and one of the key initiators of the project, Nazrul Islam Hazarí of Welkin Computers; Deputy Managing Director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Abdullah Al Mamun; Executive Director of Bhuiyan Group Shamim Ehsan; Noman Sikder of Marvelous Computers; and Techno Group Chairman Kamal Hossain Selim, among others.
Prior to the unveiling, details of the DCC project were presented, followed by good wishes for its success from leaders and stakeholders of the technology business sector.
The project’s initiators stated that Dhaka Computer City is designed to be the country’s most modern IT business center. Ready commercial shop and office spaces will be available under a sub-lease ownership model at the cost of rental-level payments. Entrepreneurs will also have access to bank loans and installment-based payment facilities, easing the path for young business owners. The building includes modern fire safety systems, smart building management, adequate parking, backup generators, high-speed elevators, 24/7 security, and high-speed internet. The entire complex will be monitored round-the-clock through CCTV, smart access controls, and fire alarms.
The new IT hub is planned as an integrated center for distributors, resellers, e-commerce businesses, and mobile and hardware brands. It will support trade and display facilities for hardware, software, servers, robotics solutions, CCTV systems, and IoT devices. Already, 50 percent of the market’s commercial space has been sold. Entrepreneurs may obtain ownership with a down payment of Tk 545,000, clearing 30 percent of the value, while 70 percent will be financed through bank loans. Even rental payment methods can convert into long-term ownership.
BCS Director and Dhaka Computer City co-initiator Nazrul Islam Hazarí said, “We are creating a space that will provide IT business owners with a permanent and long-term solution. In 2006, we established ‘BCS Computer City’ in Multiplan Centre, and now ‘Dhaka Computer City’ is its next step. Here, traders will receive ownership benefits along with bank loan and easy installment purchase options for their commercial space.”
Director of Smart Technology BD Ltd., Md. Mujahid Al Beruni Sujon, commented, “DCC has been established on a strong foundation of shared entrepreneurial vision. It will succeed because people still feel more comfortable buying technology products directly from marketplaces.”
Techno Group Chairman and DCC Director Kamal Hossain Selim stated, “Dhaka Computer City is a next-generation IT hub. Our goal is to build a permanent collaborative center for technology entrepreneurs. With modern facilities, security, and infrastructure, we are developing a complete commercial ecosystem that will further accelerate the country’s tech sector.”
