SUST Scraps Suspension of 25 Students Amid Sustained Student Strikes
Amid continuous protests by students, the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) administration has finally withdrawn its suspension order against 25 students who were expelled over ragging allegations.
The decision was confirmed through an official notice signed by the university’s Registrar, Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Kadir, on Saturday, October 11, in the afternoon.
The notice stated, “Based on discussions and unanimous recommendations made by the department heads and students regarding the decision approved in the 237th Syndicate meeting held on September 25 concerning the ragging issue, the expulsion order against students of the Departments of Economics and Statistics has been revoked. This decision will be placed before the next Syndicate meeting for formal acknowledgment.”
Earlier, in its 237th meeting on September 25, the Syndicate had decided to suspend 25 students from the Economics and Statistics departments for varying durations following allegations of ragging. In response, students from both departments boycotted classes and examinations, continuing their movement until the administration reversed its decision.
