DU Curbs Campaigning and Cyberbullying for DUCSU Polls
The Dhaka University administration has written to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to maintain a peaceful environment and curb cyberbullying during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union Elections 2025.
In the letter, the university requested that several Facebook pages, including “Dhaka University Security Forum,” “Dhaka University Students’ Parliament-1,” and “Students’ Parliament-2,” remain closed until September 10.
Alongside ensuring a fair election environment free from external influence, the administration has also decided to suspend all activities of the “Green Future Foundation” and halt the shuttle service until the same date. Meanwhile, instructions have been given to remove all billboards and banners set up by candidates on the campus.
The administration further stated, “If any candidate or party voluntarily engages in welfare activities, distributes gifts, provides financial assistance, or arranges hospitality, it will be considered a violation of the electoral code of conduct.”
The university authority has also set a timeframe for campaigning. No campaigning will be allowed until August 25. From August 26 until September 7 at 11:00 pm, candidates will be permitted to carry out campaigns on campus within the designated period.
However, during this time, “any form of social or financial assistance, gatherings or religious events, or campaigning within places of worship will be strictly prohibited.”
The administration warned that “any breach of these rules will be treated as a punishable offense under Section 17 of the electoral code of conduct.”
According to the authorities, these measures have been taken to ensure the elections are peaceful and impartial.
