Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has decided to provide fellowships to master’s students undertaking thesis-based programs. Each selected student will receive between BDT 2,500 and 3,000 per month.

The decision was taken at the university’s highest policy-making body, the Regent Board, during a meeting held on Friday, August 15. The initiative aims to further encourage students in research and transform JUST into a research-oriented university.

According to university sources, students enrolled in 18-month master’s programs with thesis will receive a monthly fellowship of BDT 2,500 for up to 12 months. Those in two-year master’s courses will receive BDT 3,000 per month for up to 18 months. However, students in 1.5 to 2-year master’s programs must publish at least one research paper to be eligible for the fellowship.

The initiative has been welcomed by Ruhul Amin, president of the JUST Research Society and a postgraduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

He said, “Many of our students manage their monthly expenses through tuition work, which makes it difficult to balance academic studies with research. In this context, the university administration’s fellowship initiative will encourage us to engage more actively in research. With this fund, we can pursue research projects with greater dedication. On behalf of all regular students, we thank the university administration.”

JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid stated that the fellowship will play a crucial role in promoting research and motivating students to focus on academic inquiry. “We want our students not only to complete their degrees but also to generate new knowledge through practical research. This initiative will help transform JUST into an internationally recognized research-oriented university. The administration will always support students so that they can dedicate themselves to research with confidence,” he added.
