Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain has announced that Waqf estates across the country are being brought under digital management systems to streamline and enhance the administration of these charitable properties. “Once completed, the management of Waqf properties will become smooth and efficient,” he stated.

He made the remarks on Saturday, July 26, while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and general meeting organized by the Motawalli Samity Bangladesh, held at the Hamdard Auditorium of Rupayan Trade Center in Banglamotor, Dhaka.

Highlighting several recent initiatives, the adviser said, “To ensure smooth management of Waqf estates, we have already taken significant steps. A separate bench has been established in the High Court to hear cases related to Waqf.”

Dr. Khalid emphasized the noble intent behind Waqf. “Those who made Waqf did so solely for the pleasure of Allah, for serving humanity, public welfare, and spiritual salvation. We urge all Motawallis to be cautious so that the sacred intentions of the Waqifs are not compromised.”

He firmly stated that all administrative activities concerning Waqf must be conducted within the framework of the law. “Motawallis are not the owners of the Waqf estates; they are merely managers. They must be appointed according to the Waqf deed,” he said, adding, “No matter how powerful an individual may be, no one will be appointed as a Motawalli outside the deed.”

Dr. Khalid also pledged to make every effort to eliminate corruption and mismanagement within the Waqf administration. He advised those Motawallis involved in illegal or unethical activities to reform themselves.

Presided over by Dr. Hakim Md. Yusuf Harun Bhuiyan, president of the Motawalli Samity, the event also featured a presentation on overcoming the challenges facing Waqf estates by the association’s Secretary General, Principal Dr. Md. Alamgir Kabir Patwari.

The adviser listened attentively to the Samity’s 14-point proposal and assured that the suggestions would be considered for implementation based on merit and relevance.

Among other speakers at the event was journalist and artist Amirul Momenin Manik, Director of Information and Public Relations at Hamdard.

Waqf, an inseparable part of Islamic tradition, dates back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It serves as a key mechanism for public welfare and charitable services within the Muslim community.
