Ex-President Hamid’s Secret Departure Clarified by Son
Riyad Ahmed Tushar, the younger son of former President Abdul Hamid, has broken his silence regarding his father's quiet departure from the country. On Thursday (May 15) at 10:18 a.m., Tushar clarified the situation in a Facebook post from his personal account, also sharing a photo of the former president seated in a wheelchair.
In the post, Tushar wrote:
"Sorry to make a post like this. An 82-83-year-old elderly man who, due to illness, cannot stand for even 2 minutes, cannot sit for 2 hours, and is forced to lie down. His weight has dropped to 54 kg. He can't wear regular pants and has to wear a lungi instead. A medical board has decided that he must seek treatment abroad. After completing his term as president, he openly declared he would no longer be involved in politics. Since then, he has remained uninvolved. Moreover, while hundreds of Bangladeshis regularly travel to Thailand for medical treatment, he, as an ordinary citizen, has the right to do the same.”
Tushar continued:
"Yet this incident is being presented in such a distorted way—it’s beyond imagination. Some people have elevated the art of fabrication to a whole new level. Please pray for his quick recovery and safe return home, In Sha Allah.”
He further added:
"If I am lying, may Allah’s curse be upon me. And for those spreading falsehoods, if they do not repent to Allah the Almighty for their actions, may His curse be upon them too. Ameen Ya Rabbal Aalameen.”
The post follows public uproar after former President Abdul Hamid quietly left the country aboard a Thai Airways flight. His sudden departure sparked controversy, especially given the existence of pending legal cases. Questions have arisen over who may have assisted him in leaving the country under such circumstances.
