YouTube has rolled out a new two-person Premium subscription plan on a trial basis in select regions, the company confirmed. According to a report by TechCrunch, the experimental plan is currently being tested in India, France, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Initially reported by Indian news outlet Moneycontrol, the development was later verified by YouTube in an official statement. “We’re working to provide more flexibility and cost-effective options for YouTube Premium members. As part of this effort, we’re experimenting with a two-person Premium plan in select countries, allowing two users to share a single subscription,” the statement read.

This plan allows individuals residing at the same address to access all YouTube Premium benefits—such as ad-free videos, background playback, and offline viewing—at a comparatively lower cost.

Analysts believe the move could both increase YouTube’s subscriber base and boost the platform’s revenue. It may also attract former subscribers who canceled their plans after previous price hikes, offering them a more affordable reentry point.

Earlier, in March 2025, YouTube introduced a new subscription tier called “Premium Lite,” which offers ad-free video streaming for $7.99 per month. This lighter version is currently available in the United States, Australia, Germany, and Thailand.

At present, YouTube Premium and YouTube Music combined have over 125 million users worldwide, including those on free trials.
