BOU Back Online: Server Services Restored After Shutdown

Online services and internet connectivity at Bangladesh Open University (BOU) have been restored, according to an official notification signed on Thursday by Md. Masum Billah, Acting Director of the university’s Computer Division.
The statement reads: "Online services have resumed as the central server room's air-conditioning system has become partially operational."
Previously, all operations on BOU’s central server had been suspended since March 31, the day of Eid. At the time, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam stated that the server had been shut down “for security reasons.” However, the university’s Registrar, Professor Dr. Shafiqul Alam, offered a different explanation, saying the server was taken offline “due to malfunctioning air conditioning during the Eid holiday.”
Notably, BOU’s central server houses sensitive academic data, including student records, exam results, and certificate verification systems. Students had expressed concern that the shutdown might jeopardize the confidential information of nearly 900,000 students.
The university has not reported any data loss or breaches during the shutdown.
