A significant quantity of electronic cigarettes and accessories was seized from a passenger's luggage at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday, June 22. The items were recovered by members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and airport security personnel based on a tip-off.

The incident took place early in the morning after US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-350 arrived from Abu Dhabi. The passenger, identified as Mohammad Ayub, a resident of Purba Amilaish in Satkania, was intercepted while attempting to pass through the green channel at approximately 6:20 AM.

Upon inspection, officials recovered 20 electronic cigarettes, 490 e-cigarette refill liquids, 280 cartridges, and 30 coils from his luggage. Airport authorities estimate the market value of the confiscated items to be around BDT 1,073,000, with the refill liquids alone accounting for nearly BDT 850,000.

Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, Public Relations Officer of Shah Amanat International Airport, stated, “The passenger was stopped based on confidential information. Upon searching his baggage, we found a large number of e-cigarettes and related products.”

As the incident marks the passenger’s first known involvement in such an offense, officials reported that the seized items were preserved as a “Departmental Matter (DM)” in accordance with regulations, and the passenger was released.
