RAS Technology Offers Sustainable Aquaculture with Minimal Land Use

Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology enables the production of the same quantity of high-quality fish as traditional farms while utilizing only two percent of the land area. This innovative system, operating in a controlled environment, uses groundwater for aquaculture while simultaneously facilitating the cultivation of vegetables through greenhouse farming. The process ensures a pollution-free system by channeling the daily discharge of water and carbon dioxide into the greenhouse.

These insights were highlighted at a meeting held on Thursday at the Agile Resources Inc. office in LR Villa Concord House, Gulshan. The session focused on the potential and latest advancements in RAS-based aquaculture projects in Bangladesh. Among the attendees were representatives from NORAS Watertech AS, a Norwegian company specializing in RAS technology and knowledge sharing.

The event's chief guest, Marianne Rabe Knaevelsrud, Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, assured full support from the embassy in integrating this technology in Bangladesh. Other distinguished participants included Syed Muntasir Baizid, Economic Affairs and Trade Advisor at the Norwegian Embassy, and senior engineers from Agile Resources Inc.

The discussion was moderated by Quamruzzaman Khan Sohel, Founder and CEO of Agile Resources Inc., who also served as the keynote speaker. Among the interested entrepreneurs present at the event were Hakim Ali, Managing Director of Hotel Agrabad in Chattogram, Shamsuzzaman Khan, Chairman of A.K. Khan & Co. Ltd., and representatives from Beach Hatchery Ltd.
